The Northants Way
The Northants Way
We want our players and all those involved in Northants Hockey to have the best time when training and playing in matches. To ensure everyone has the best possible experience, we have a few ground rules on expected behaviour:
Players
- Respect each other and the spirit of fair play
- Accept success and failure with dignity
- Encourage and support your team-mates
- Applaud all good play from all teams
- Co-operate with coaches, team-mates and officials
- Attend training and commit to the Player Pathway
- Be available for match selection
- Notify any intended absence in advance
Parents
- Praise effort and enjoyment as much as winning
- Respect decisions from umpires and coaches alike
- Allow the coaches to coach - resist the temptation to direct from the touchlines
- Keep team managers informed of concerns or injuries
A word on coaches and umpires…
Frequently, our assistant coaches, umpires and support staff are volunteers.
Clearly the focus of the Academy is to develop future hockey stars from our talented youth, but Academies also serve to build and develop young leaders as umpires and coaches. Like our young players, it is impossible that they will make the right decision every time, all the time. Positive support and encouragement will help their learning and development too.
